Banking change is rarely blocked by the technology. It is blocked by the number of parties who have to agree, the age of the systems the change has to pass through, and the regulatory obligations that make "just try it" an unacceptable answer. Programmes that would take months elsewhere take years, and the cost of that delay is usually absorbed silently rather than measured.
Businesses on the other side of the counter face a mirror image of the same problem. Credit decisions, facility reviews, payment and treasury arrangements all run to a logic that is not visible from outside, so proposals fail for reasons that are never quite explained.

We spend the first period listening — to the team doing the job, not only to the people sponsoring the change — and we report what we find plainly, including when the finding is that the programme should stop.
We are equally willing to tell a board that a programme is worth continuing and that it is not. The value of an independent voice disappears the moment it starts agreeing by default.
